Gerald De Courcy 17th (12th) Lord of Kinsale, Lord of Chrithchr

Commanded at Bologne in France
Knighted by Lord Deputy at Limerick May 30 1567.
By his great expenses he considerably reduced his estate.
Lived to be very old (possibly 100 years)
Also known as the Old Lord Coursie

Likely sold, gifted (or mortgaged) lands including Old Head to MacCarthy family (Florence MacCarthy) later claimed these properties). [he Life and Letters of Florence MacCarthy Reagh, Tanist of Carbery ]

His will, dated June 6,1594 at Kinsale, leaves all his lands etc to John deCourcy, his successor in title. (disinheriting his only daughter Mary who had married a rebelling Irish leader Donough O'Driscol (and son of that marriage Fynnin)

Landholdings: Barony of Courcy contained approximately 3,572 acres of land including
1. Ringrone and its old castle, giving title of Baron to the Lords of Courcy
2. Castle Park Fort overlooking Kinsale and its harbour.
3. The Old Head at Kinsale (sometimes called Down MacPatrick)

Grant by Gerald Courcey, Baron and Lord of Chrithchr. siagh (sic), to John, son of Robert Myaghe of Cork, merchant, of exemption from serving the office of portreve in the town of Kinsal, even though he should be elected by the town-council. Kinsall, 2 Nov. 1559, 1 Eliz. MS 608, f. 22b [n.d.]
The seal of this Gerald Lord Courcy, which was fixed to this deed, had impressed in it an eagle displayed, double-headed, and the inscription about it was: Sigillum Patricij filij Nicholai Courcye.
