Oct 4 1721: The House unanimously resolved that "Gerald, Lord Baron of Kingsale and Baron Courcy and Ringrone, is entitled to his seat" in Parliament. This was a historic event as it appears to be the first decision in favor of the principle of male descent of the ancient baronies in Ireland, the second being in faovr of his successor in 1762. A third decision was given in favor of Lord Dunsany in 1782.
Obtained pension of 300pounds
June 13, 1720: Gerald DeCourcey was by his grace, the Duke of Grafton, presented to his Majesty King George I, when he had the honour to kiss his hand and to assert this ancient privilege
June 22, 1727: he was presented by the Lord Carteret, to his majesty King George II, by whom he was graciously received, had the honour of kissing his hand, and of being also covered in his presence.
Having no male heir, he actively searched for the appropriate heir to the titles and properties. Eventually recognized John DeCourcy, son of his long lost cousin Miles. His three daughters challenged but lost.
Died without male issue per Debretts Peerage of England, Scotland and Ireland. Hence the title of Baron DeCourcy passed to John, descended from the 4th son of the 18th lord.
