As his tombstone says, he was Premier Baron of Ireland. He asserted his right to remain covered in the presence of royalty.
His will showed estate of less than 2000 pounds.

John married Adelaide Brown Westhead, daughter of Joshua Proctor Brown Westhead and Unknown, on 1 Mar 1855. (Adelaide Brown Westhead died in 1885 in Lea Castle.)
